Homemade Animal Crackers

I have been wanting to make these for a long time, and only wish I had attempted sooner! The cute animal cracker cookie cutters are also linked in my like to know it. The recipe has no processed sugars, and the dough makes a ton of animal crackers- at least 3 dozen. I promise they will not last long though!

Homemade Animal Crackers

Makes at least 3 dozen animal crackers

What you need:

2 cups all purpose flour

½ TSP salt

1 TSP baking powder

1 TSP ground cinnamon

½ TSP ground nutmeg

1 stick of butter, at room temperature

1 large egg

1 TSP vanilla extract

¼ cup maple syrup

2 TBSP raw honey

What to do:

1.)  In medium bowl, cream together butter, egg, vanilla, maple syrup, and honey with a hand mixer.

2.) In another bowl, whisk together the dry ingredients-flour, salt, baking powder, cinnamon, and nutmeg.

3.) Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients to form a dough.

4.) Wrap in a flat disk shape, and place in fridge for at least an hour.

5.) Roll dough out to about ¼ inch thickness. The key is really to them thick enough for the cookie cutters, and so they don’t just fall apart. Also not too thick where they aren’t like crackers.

6.) Bake on lined cooking sheets at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for about 10-15 minutes till a slight golden on bottoms.

Store in air tight container!
